‘Ancient’ breeds no closer to first domestic dogs

Extensive crossbreeding makes it almost impossible to trace dog heritage
Several ‘ancient’ breeds including Basenjis, Salukis and Dingoes are genetically no more similar to the first domestic dogs than any other breed, they merely appear genetically different because they were isolated from Victorian breeding initiatives.
The exact origins of the modern domestic dog remain a mystery, however progress in DNA sequencing technology could soon shed light on the origins of man’s best friend.
