The Elisabeth Svendsen Trust for Children and Donkeys officially merges with The Donkey Sanctuary
The merge comes in a move to save administrative costs, and because the two charities complement one another so well.
Donkeys assist in therapy for children with additional needs and the elderly, and at the same time the donkeys are looked after and cared for by the people they help.
Three VN students prepare to skydive to raise funds for Breakthrough Breast Cancer
Leah Harrop, Emma Page and Caroline Bromley hope to raise £1500 for cancer charity Breakthrough Breast Cancer with a skydive at Whitchurch Airfield.
Emma, 20, commented: “We feel that it will be an amazing experience that we will remember for the rest of our lives, and doing it for such a good cause makes it even more worthwhile.”
The students took part in a sponsored walk for Hearing Dogs for Deaf People but this is their first major fundraiser – and what a fundraiser to start off with. This is an amazing idea and we at Vetsforum wish them the best.

Lieutenant-Colonel Dr. Tiffany Hemming becomes new chair of Animal Welfare Foundation
Dr. Hemming will be leading BVA’s animal welfare charity following Carl Padgett’s departure. The Foundation funds research and educational activities to promote animal welfare within the UK.
Dr. Hemming previously served as commander of a medical squad for two years in Afghanistan, and currently holds the rank of Lieutenant-Colonel within the Territorial Army.
CEVA announces Medical Detection Dogs (MDD) as charity of 2012
CEVA already provide Medical Detection Dogs with Adaptil, the pheromone based treatment that relaxes dogs and complements a successful upbringing.
CEVA will also be organising a number of fundraising events throughout 2012 including the Yorkshire Three Peaks Challenge.

Vets supporting Gambia Horse and Donkey Trust partner with Veterciyn to deliver essential aid to Sambel Kunda in Gambia
Pat Sells and Laura Heaps, two vets based in Suffolk, will be transporting supplies to West Africa to treat donkeys that would otherwise die. Fatal infections, epidemics and neglect are all problems working animals in West Africa face, and with no access to veterinary care a staggering number of donkeys die every year.
Cyclists supporting Rossdales raise over £20 000 for charity
A charity bike ride organised by vets at Rossdales has raised over £20 000 for Addenbrooks Oncology Centre and Animal Care in Egypt (ACE). Together the cyclists cycled a staggering 4100 miles.
TV personality and ACE patron Martin Clunes, ACE trustee Sue Akehurst and Senior Sister at Addenbrookes Lorraine King visited Rossdales on 05 Oct to collect the money raised for their causes.
Lorraine King said: ‘I am totally blown away by this cheque. It far surpasses what we had hoped the Rossdales team would achieve’
Owners and vets urged to sign petition to force firework manufacturers to highlight pet safety.
The online petition launched by Dan Syrett has already garnered support from vets, clinics and celebrities including the Wood Green Animal Shelter, the Blue Cross, Nick Freeman and Jilly Johnson. If the petition receives enough signatures it will be brought before the House of Commons.
