New DNA test approved for breed registration

Following consultation with the Chinese Crested breed clubs and their health coordinator, the Kennel Club has recently approved new official DNA testing schemes for both prcd-PRA and PLL in the breed.

The prcd-PRA test is offered by Optigen and the PLL test is offered by the Animal Health Trust. Copies of all future test certificate results issued by these organisations will be sent directly to the Kennel Club, where the test result will be added to the dog’s details on the registration database.

Owners who have already had their dog DNA tested for these conditions can send copies of the test certificate to the Kennel Club and the data will be added to the dog’s registration details.

More information on the prcd-PRA test is available from Optigen and the Animal Health Trust.
