Lameness Most Common Reason For Equine Euthanasia

4:01 pm in Clinical, Equine, UK by Jonathan (Vetsforum Editor)

Lameness is the reason for most euthanasia cases in older horses in the UK

The Horse Trust has conducted research analysing the reasons for death in aging horses, in an effort to find what ‘old age’ actually means.

24% of horses are euthanised due to lameness, with a further 12% euthanised for laminitis: a common cause of lameness. Lameness is often preventable, and this research should be used to further awareness.

Is there a potential solution in stem-cell research?
