The future for vet practices

Half of UK practices still use manual registration systems

Research conducted by Petlog has shown a staggering number of veterinary practices continue to register patients using manual systems which take longer to fill out, can be less accurate and cause difficulty when being revisited.

According to the National Office of Statistics, 77% of households have access to the internet, however according to Petlog, only 33% of vets choose to do their registrations electronically.

Electronic registration eliminates the need for paper forms and any potential mistakes clients or staff may make. To find out more visit Petlog.

Petlog celebrate over 90,000 records accessed during National Microchipping Month

Petlog is celebrating after it was announced that over 90,000 pets’ records were checked by their responsible owners as a result of an awareness campaign which took place throughout National Microchipping Month in June.

Celia Walsom, Petlog Executive said: “We are delighted that over 90,000 contact details were checked. This is great news, as it shows that we are getting through to people that having their pet microchipped alone is not enough – they also need to keep their contact details up to date.”

Over 20 000 more pets reported missing in summer than winter

10:59 am in Canine, Feline, Lagomorph, News by Jonathan (Vetsforum Editor)

Pets far more likely to go missing during summer

Since 2000, 20,000 more pets were reported missing to the Petlog database in summer rather than winter, and last year alone, over 3,000 more pets (29%) went missing in June, July and August than during January, February and December.

It is estimated that only 58% of dogs are microchipped, and the number is thought to be less for cats, rabbits and other pets.

Celia Walsom, Petlog Executive said: “It is worrying that so many more pets go missing in summer rather than winter… Microchips are a fantastic tool to reunite lost pets with their owners, as they are permanent. It doesn’t matter when or where missing pets are found; they can still be returned to their owners.”

We are in the last few days of National Microchipping Month, which takes place throughout June each year, and numerous microchip databases, dog welfare organisations and veterinary clinics have been promoting the benefits of microchipping to pet owners.

Welsh Assembly Members give their support to the Kennel Club and the Microchipping Alliance

15 members from the Welsh Assembly have spoken out on the need for compulsory microchipping. This comes days after a similar move from theScottish Parliament.

Members of the Welsh Assembly supported legislation taken by Northern Ireland to introduce compulsory microchipping.

June is National Microchipping Month in the UK, a month long campaign to promote the use of microchips to reunite lost dogs with their owners and reduce the number of strays in the country.

While it may be speculation, could we be in a situation where every territory bar England eventually adopts compulsory microchipping?
