Equine Dentistry Could Become Specialty

The international community calls for equine dentistry to be recognised as a veterinary specialisation

Horse dentistry has progressed far beyond ‘floating’ of teeth, becoming a complex and far reaching aspect in the wellbeing of horses, making the need for an official specialisation body a necessity. An official specialising body would also be able to settle the dispute over whether it should be vets and vets alone who perform equine dental surgery.

While horse dentistry is currently recognised by various bodies, no certified programs exist to separate it as a specialisation.

Is there a future for veterinary specialisation?

The Working Party is encouraging more vets to consider specialising, introducing easier methods of becoming an RCVS Recognised Specialist.

The proposal has been introduced to simplify the process for the general public, and to enable wider access to specialised treatment.

Veterinary nursing competition

If you’re a veterinary nurse and have an idea you think would improve your practice, the RCVS Charitable Trust would like to hear from you. Vet nurses see the inner workings of practices but sometimes there’s no time or means to get their ideas put into action, the RCVS Charitable Trust wants to change this.

If you’ve had a ‘lightbulb moment’ at work either e-mail grants@rcvstrust.org.uk, call 020 7202 0741 or take a look at the RCVS Grants site for more information.
